The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
