The Actress Expresses Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels fitting to speak out regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the United States.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains the Actress
Speaking with media, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about voting for both right and leftwing presidential nominees in past elections. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the left-leaning politics and stating she realized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was emphasized by his election win.
“This upcoming term appears changed,” commented the actress about Trump’s presidency. “Because he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for four years. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
The actor is highlighting the drama, the filmmaker’s movie in which she plays a young mom who deals with her emotional state in rural Montana. During a media event for the film in the film festival, Lawrence spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
The actor attempted to refocus outrage about the conflict to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the recent commitment endorsed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.
Individual Insights
The actor, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in Die, My Love. Although the director has disputed the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her new baby, soon after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she explained, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called Zurzuvae and I used it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also spoke regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
