Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
He finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
