While Europe cleaves ever tighter to Ukraine amid continuing warnings of American abandonment, the peril is that Trump has rationalized a rationale for ignoring his allies.

This situation requires a robust reaction from capitals across Europe. Although certain leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have been blunt in their rebuttals, others—like British officials—have opted for a policy of attempting to appease the White House.

Recently, a Downing Street spokesperson declined to push back on the president's remarks about Europe or his latest criticism on London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The spokesperson stated, "The Prime Minister has a productive partnership with the American leader and a good working relationship with the London mayor, and is committed to working with both to achieve stronger results for the people."
