Iran Reports Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the US has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
