Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
